Ford driver Hirvonen starts season with second place
Monte Carlo Rally: Mikko Hirvonen successfully opened the 2008 World Rally Championship in his Ford Focus RS WRC 07 by finishing second overall behind Sébastien Loeb (Citroen C4 WRC) and ahead of Australian Chris Atkinson (Subaru Impreza WRC 06). During the 19 stages around Valence and to the north of Monte Carlo, Sébastien Loeb once again demonstrated his extraordinary skill. He was unbeatable on the almost ice and snow-free roads and only Mikko Hirvonen and Daniel Sordo, who was forced to retire because of a technical fault, we able match his pace. The opening WRC rally took place in the Maritime Alps on dry asphalt tracks without a sign of snow or ice. This will probably change at the next rally in Sweden on 8 to 10 February.
